The Donald M. Gay Performing Arts Center
Established as a hub for arts, culture & education in Auburn, Maine.
Named in honor of Donald M. Gay, a beloved music educator who led Edward Little’s band and chorus programs to regional acclaim from 1944–1959, the center reflects his lasting legacy. In 2022, the ELHS Class of 1951 donated $400,000 to name the venue in his memory, the largest private gift in school history. The center officially opened in December 2023 and now serves students and the broader community through performances, rentals, and special events.

Gay Performing Arts Center is a self-sustaining venue that relies entirely on rentals, donations, and sponsorships to maintain its facilities, cover personnel costs, and ensure the space remains a high-quality venue for the community. Unlike other school facilities that receive budgeted funding, we must generate our own revenue to support ongoing maintenance, staffing, and necessary upgrades.
